“Going the extra mile is the willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. You either get the importance of this, or you do not.” — Gary Ryan Blair – author, and President of The GoalsGuy.

The Novant Health patient, alone and waiting for her medication delivery, had fallen in her home. She had a broken arm and eventually received twenty-four stitches in her head. The delivery driver for Davis Delivery, arriving at the patient’s door, expected to make his usual on-time and efficient medications delivery.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that one out of five fall incidents result in serious injury, including broken bones or head injuries. Indeed, falls are the leading cause of household injuries. Cluttered rooms, wet floors, loose rugs, and stairways are all obviously potential causes of accidental falls.

A fall occurring when a person is alone can be a serious matter, both injury wise and emotionally. Fortunately for the Novant Health patient, this would not be the case. Her Davis Delivery driver, delivering the medicines from Novant Health, sensed something was amiss. He discovered that his recipient had fallen and was alone. He stayed with her thirty minutes, offering comfort, until help arrived in the form of her husband.

The Novant Health Outpatient Pharmacy manager reported to Davis Delivery that the “patient called and wanted to make sure that the man who delivered her medication yesterday was recognized. She said that she had fallen in her house, was injured, and he waited with her and would not leave until her husband could get home to her. She was crying she was so thankful and called him an angel.”

Davis Delivery Chief Operating Officer Ben Bowab said, “our job is in concert with Novant Health, enhancing the patient experience. We’re proud of our drivers, and proud to be a small part of it, serving Novant Health patients.” Bowab added that Novant Health’s pledge to their patients – “relentlessly committed to you” – applies to Davis Delivery role as their trusted delivery solution.

As quoted by Gary Ryan Blair, going beyond the call of duty – the importance is something we at Davis Delivery believe we get, each delivery, day after day. Because we get it, our Integrated Health Network customers, and their patients, get it too.
